Spring 2009
May 22: Annual Careers in Geospatial Technology Panel
Cramer Hall, room 413, 3 ~ 5 pm:
Panelists will discuss how they use GIS/Remote Sensing/Cartography/Photogrammetry in their fields and address what skills they look for when hiring new employees.
Flyer1, Flyer2, Flyer3
The panelists include:
Celia Cornett, Portland Water Bureau, PPT
David Drescher, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, PPT
Rafael Gutierrez, SWCA Environmental Consultants, PPT
Tim Nortz, Watershed Sciences, PPT
Molly Vogt, City of Gresham, PPT
May 29: Geocaching!
The Geospatial Information Society (GIS) Student Organization (an ASPRS student chapter)
in collaboration with the Friends of Geography (FOG) is holding a geocaching event at 3pm
on May 29th, 2009.
Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which the participants use a Global
Positioning System (GPS) receiver to seek containers, called "geocaches". A typical cache
is a small waterproof container (like a film canister).
Along with the latitude and longitude, we are including historic/background information
about the location and its interesting features. The goal of this event is to raise
awareness of remote sensing and the geography of Portland.
Meet at 3:00pm in Cramer Hall room 413 to learn about GPS, bring your own GPS unit or
borrow a unit if you need one, learn how to use it, and go over the rules of the game.
We'll be outside by 3:30pm, dress appropriately!
